Whilst there are many places in the world where you can have an amazing holiday by taking out a motor yacht charter, the Caribbean islands are definitely at the top of the list.

The beautiful weather, the dozens of small and large ports, the clear waters and the culture of celebration and relaxation make it a perfect place to get a motor yacht charter. Caribbean holidays are unforgettable to begin with - being the skipper of your own boat though, well it takes that experience even further.

One way - and a fun way - of seeing the islands on your yacht would just be to up anchor and cast off into the crystal blue seas, with the wind as your compass and the horizon as your map; taking each destination as it comes. Of course, this does have some practical drawbacks; you might be slightly better off planning your journey ahead of time. If you want to see the best that the Caribbean has to offer, a little organisation might be a better idea; here are a few destinations that you shouldn't miss:

English Harbour, Antigua

If you're visiting 'in season' (December to April) then Antigua's natural harbours will make an unforgettable sight for anyone with a love of sailing. English Harbour fills with yachts of all shapes and sizes, the naturally protected waters bristling with swaying masts - just try not to get jealous.

Harbour Island, The Bahamas

The epitome of the Caribbean cosmopolitan lifestyle, this ultra-chic destination features fashion from the island's design queen, India Hicks. The beautiful beaches won't put you off either.

Bitter End Yacht Club, British Virgin Islands

If you want to live the traditional life of the yachting community, then a visit to the Bitter End club is a must. As well as some of the most expensive mega-yachts in the area, plenty of skippers in archetypal blue blazers and white hats visit the port to share drinks and stories in the luxury bar.

The 'Black Pearl', Union Island

Sail to Union Island in the Grenadines and you could swap your yacht for something a little more famous - if only for a day. Captain Jack Sparrow's very own Black Pearl, as seen in 'The Pirates of the Carribean', is available for a day trip to the Tobago Cays - certain to go over well with any younger crewmen.

Birdwatching, Trinidad and Tobago

A little ways off the traditional CaribbeanCaribbean 'circuit', the island nation of Trinidad and Tobago has an overwhelming number of exotic birds native to its jungles and beaches. Nearly 430 different species can be seen and one of the world's greatest birding outposts, the Asa Wright Nature Centre, is a 90 minute drive the capital Port of Spain.
